Sanchez deal edging closer

Arsenal and Barcelona are increasingly confident Alexis Sanchez will complete a move to north London.

Sky sources understand Sanchez is not yet in London, as has been reported, but it is believed a deal has been agreed in principle.

And the Chile forward could soon become Arsenal's second-most expensive signing behind Mesut Ozil, who cost a reported 42.5m last summer.

A deal for Newcastle right-back Mathieu Debuchy is also thought to be imminent as Arsene Wenger plans to build on last season's FA Cup win.

But it is the Sanchez move, in particular, which is exciting supporters - and former Arsenal striker Alan Smith.

The Sky Sports expert said: "Sanchez is fantastic signing. He's enjoyed a really good World Cup for Chile; he's been their best player and he's been the one that's dragged them forward and produced some real moments of quality.

"And of course, he's got that all-important pace and is someone who can get behind defences.

"He played on the right a lot for Barcelona, whether he'll play a bit more centrally for Arsenal we'll wait and see but he's a really good signing."
