Sandiva waits for Newmarket

Sandiva will bypass Newbury on Saturday and instead head for the Lanwades Stud Nell Gwyn Stakes at Newmarket next Wednesday.

The Footstepsinthesand filly finished runner-up in the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot last season and was not disgraced in the Group One Prix Marcel Boussac at Longchamp on her final start as a juvenile.

Richard Fahey, who won the Nell Gwyn with Barefoot Lady in 2011, is pleased with how Sandiva has wintered.

He said: "Sheikh Joaan Al Thani (owner) has Marco Botti's horse (Al Thakhira) in the race and does not want to run Sandiva against her.

"I'll look at the Nell Gwyn for her now but I would not want to run her on too soft a surface so we will see."

Dutch Courage, who won twice as a juvenile, will instead represent the Malton-based handler in the Group Three over seven furlongs.

Fahey also plans to split his colts Parbold and Supplicant, with the former a confirmed absentee in the Aon Greenham Stakes on the same card.

He said: "Supplicant won the Mill Reef at Newbury last season and should handle the testing ground better than Parbold.

"It looks a pretty warm renewal of the Greenham but we have to run somewhere.

"Parbold will go to Newmarket with Sandiva and run in the Craven."
