Schalke deal for Wellenreuther

Teenage goalkeeper Timon Wellenreuther has signed a three-year professional contract at Bundesliga side Schalke.

The 18-year-old's services have now been secured until 2017.

Wellenreuther becomes the 13th player from Schalke's successful U19 side to pen a senior deal with the club, with plenty of emphasis being placed on the production of home-grown talent.

He had only been part of that side for 12 months, having been lured away from Karlsruher, but will now start the 2013/14 campaign as third-choice shot-stopper at the Veltins Arena.

Schalke's general manager Horst Heldt told the club's official website: "A couple of talented goalkeepers from our youth academy have turned professional in recent years.

"We feel that Timon will be able to do that too.

"He will be taking part in first team activities and will receive additional match action with our reserves at the same time."
