Schild lands record win

Marlies Schild came from sixth after her first run to set a new World Cup record as she claimed her 35th slalom victory in Lienz, Austria.

American teenager Mikaela Shiffrin had headed the field after the first run but home favourite Schild produced a storming second effort to finish in one minute 55.63 seconds.

As well as leapfrogging Shiffrin by 0.41secs, victory saw Schild become the most successful World Cup slalom skier.

Olympic slalom champion Maria Hoefl-Riesch of Germany was third, 0.63secs behind Schild.

Maria Pietilae-Holmner of Sweden and Kathrin Zettel of Austria, who were second and third respectively after the opening run, were scuppered by the poor conditions and did not finish.
