Schmitz rules out Bremen exit

Werder Bremen full-back Lukas Schmitz has ended speculation over his future by claiming he has no desire to leave the Weserstadion.

The 25-year-old has been subject of rumours after struggling to secure a regular starting berth with the Bundesliga side.

Schmitz has featured only twice for Bremen in this season's Bundesliga campaign with Theodor Gebre and Sebastian Prodl occupying the full-back positions.

However, despite speculation being rife, Schmitz remains committed to fighting for a role at the Weserstadion but admits should there be no change come the end of the season, he would consider offers.

"The calendar year of 2014 should be more successful for me than 2013," he told BILD.

"I am under contract with Werder Bremen until June 2015. I have no desire to leave the club at this point in time.

"However, it is obvious I cannot be happy with being regularly off the first-team sheet. That's a fact I have to consider."

Schmitz has made a total of just 45 appearances in his three years at Bremen since joining from Schalke in 2011.
