Scotland name uncapped five

All-rounder Neil Carter is among five uncapped players in Scotland's squad for the forthcoming series with Afghanistan.

Scotland are due to play five matches against the Afghans in the United Arab Emirates next month - two T20 fixtures, two World Cricket League

Championship games and a four-day Intercontinental Cup tie.

And former Warwickshire man Carter, whose only previous appearances came in non-cap games, travels along with Northamptonshire wicket-keeper David Murphy.

Yorkshire seam bowler Iain Wardlaw, Sussex batsman Matt Machan and Leicestershire's Ron Taylor are the other new faces.

Scotland's chairman of selectors, Iain Kennedy, said: "This has been the most

challenging and exciting selection of recent times as it is very rare that you

would get such an influx of talented individuals to pick from.

"Hopefully our new players will gel quickly with our current squad and we get

the positive results we are all hoping for against Afghanistan."

Scotland are currently second behind Ireland in both the Intercontinental Cup and the World Cricket League, which carries a place in the 2015 World Cup for the winner.

Squad: Berrington, Carter, Coetzer, Davey, Drummond, Goudie, Haq, Iqbal, Machan, MacLeod, Murphy, Mommsen, Sharif, Taylor, Wardlaw.
