Scott to partner to Johnson

Defending champion Dustin Johnson will partner Adam Scott in the first round of the Hyundai Tournament of Champions in Kapalua thanks to a vote from golf fans.

Brandt Snedeker and Matt Kuchar were the other candidates to play alongside Johnson, but Masters champion Scott topped the poll to create an exciting opening-round match-up on the Plantation Course in Hawaii.

Australian Scott is looking to build on the best year of his career in 2013, with his maiden major victory, FedExCup play-off victory at The Barclays and six top-10 finishes on the PGA Tour leading him to be named Player of the Year by the Golf Writers Association of America, ahead of Tiger Woods.

"It is an honour to be recognised as the most consistent male golfer of

2013," said the world No 2.

The field for the tournament, which starts on Friday, features six of the top 16 in the world rankings, including PGA Championship winner Jason Dufner, Matt Kuchar, Zach Johnson and Brandt Snedeker, although there is no Tiger Woods or Phil Mickelson.

Rookie of the Year Jordan Spieth is also in the line-up, while Scotland's

Martin Laird is the sole British player in action.

The par-73 Plantation Course is known for its exposure to the wind but David Smallwood, the resort's chief superintendent, is confident the conditions will be favourable this weekend.

"We're not seeing any speeds above 15 [mph]," he said. "Fifteen mile-an-hour wind at Kapalua is very normal. We'll be able to handle it just fine."
