Scunthorpe appoint Schofield

Scunthorpe have confirmed the appointment of John Schofield as the club's new assistant manger.

The former Lincoln boss, who has also had spells in charge of Walsall, Cheltenham, Gillingham and Cambridge, will be Russ Wilcox's number two for the 2014/15 season.

"I am very pleased to have him on board as he will bring a wealth of experience," Wilcox told the club's official website.

"He has been in management and coaching a long time and he has come from League One with Gillingham which I think is the key.

"In the last two seasons he has won promotion from League Two and then spent a full season in League One so he knows what it is all about.

"I think he will bring a bit of everything. He has experience on the coaching ground and of match day situations as well as serving under various different managers such as Martin Allen.

"It is a good coup for the club as he will bring that enthusiasm."

As manager of Lincoln Schofield won 23 of his 64 games in charge and later became caretaker manager of both Walsall and Cheltenham Town in 2009, Gillingham in 2013 and was first-team coach at Cambridge in 2010 and 2011.
