Seeded duo out in Brazil

Home favourite Rogerio Dutra Silva produced a spectacular fightback to dump sixth seed Guillermo Garcia Lopez out of the Brazil Open.

The Spaniard looked to be romping to victory as he claimed the first set 6-1 but the world number 147 delighted the home crowd with a stirring performance to prevail 1-6 7-5 6-3.

The only other seed in action on Tuesday also made an exit as Santiago Giraldo was beaten by Tomasz Bellucci.

The sixth-seeded Colombian claimed the first set but the home crowd were given more to cheer as Bellucci battled back to win 4-6 7-5 6-3.

It wasn't all good news for the Brazilians, though, as wildcard Guilherme Clezar went down 6-4 6-3 to Slovakia's Martin Klizan.

Italian Filippo Volandri made a first-round exit as he was beaten 6-1 6-2 by Federico Delbonis but there was better news for countryman Paolo Lorenzi as he won 7-5 6-3 against Pere Riba.

Another Italian will join him in the last-16 with qualifier Potito Starace beating Alejandro Gonzalez 4-6 6-2 6-3.

In other first round games, Austria's Andreas Haider-Maurer beat Julian Reister 6-2 4-6 6-1, Albert Montanes was a 6-2 6-2 winner over Aljaz Bedene and Gastao Elias was defeated 6-3 3-6 6-2 by Albert Ramos.
