Seeds progress in Acapulco

Irina-Camelia Begu led a trio of seeds in progressing to the second round of the Abierto Mexicano Telcel in Acapulco.

The fourth-seeded Romanian was pushed all the way by wildcard Ajla Tomljanovic of Croatia but eventually came through to seal a 6-2 3-6 7-5 win.

The match featured an incredible 16 breaks as Begu dropped her serve seven times and broke her opponent on nine occasions.

Dutch fifth seed Kiki Bertens also adavanced as she claimed a 6-2 7-5 win over Sharon Fichman of Canada.

No 7 seed Lourdes Dominguez Lino of Spain overcame Italy's Flavia Pennetta 7-5 6-3, while there were also wins for Spain's Estrella Cabeza Candela and Sesil Karatantcheva of Kazakhstan.
