Sensation set for Maghull test

Next Sensation will step up to Grade One company for the first time in the Doom Bar Maghull Novices' Chase at Aintree on Saturday.

An eyecatching fourth in the Grand Annual at Cheltenham when he led for a long way and was still in front at the final fence, he also holds an option in the Red Rum Handicap Chase on Thursday.

Trainer Michael Scudamore said: "It's looking like we'll go in the novice race.

"The way the Arkle turned out we felt we might not have been that far away so we've got nothing to lose by running him. Also, it's the last chance we'll get to run him in a novice race against the best.

"The thinking is the way he runs we'll put the jumping of the others under pressure and see where that gets us.

"With Western Warhorse (David Pipe's Arkle winner) in the longer race (Manifesto Novices' Chase) it frees Tom (Scudamore) up so he'll be back on board.

"I was really pleased with how he went on again at Cheltenham when it looked like he'd be swallowed up and you'd like to think a flatter track will suit."
