Seven day ban for Atkinson

Ross Atkinson was handed a seven-day ban for failing to weigh-in after finishing third on Syncopate at Lingfield.

The pair had finished in the frame behind Rakaan in the Coral Mobile "Just Three Clicks To Bet" Handicap.

The 3lb claimer is suspended from January 1 to 7 inclusive while his mount was disqualified and placed last. Ishikawa was promoted to third and Oratorio's Joy to fourth.

"It was very embarrassing for me, for the owners and for Pam (Sly, trainer). The horse ran well again. It was stupid of me," Atkinson told At The Races.

"There are no excuses, it was unprofessional and I'm very embarrassed. I thought seven days was a bit harsh, but if you do something wrong you deserve to be punished."

Atkinson made amends by winning the concluding Best Odds Guaranteed On Racing Apprentice Handicap on Echo Brava (7/1) for Luke Dace.

"There didn't seem to be much pace on paper. We were a little bit worried about that before the race, but he settled well," he said.

"When I did get there he was always just doing enough. Hopefully he can build on that with a bit of confidence and he should go in again."
