Sale flanker Dave Seymour will skipper the Sharks for their 2012/13 campaign.
Seymour replaces former All Black Sam Tuitupou, who will act as vice-captain.
And the 27-year-old, in his fourth season with the club, is delighted to be handed the responsibility.
"It's a massive honour especially when you look at the strength of players we have in the squad," he said. "I'm very excited at the prospect.
"It probably helps that I filled in as captain at the start of last season when Sammy was unavailable for the first few weeks.
"It was the first time I'd really captained a side and I was very lucky to have great help from the likes of Mark Cueto, Nick Macleod and Dwayne Peel.
"It helps massively having guys of that calibre around me. The strength of experience and personality we have means we will have a lot of leaders out there and I'd be stupid not to take on board their views and experience.
"It's a big responsibility but I will just try to get out there and play the way I always have. We're a young team and one that is still learning but I have every confidence in the guys we have in the squad."
