Sharps shuns kudos for move up

Shrewsbury skipper Ian Sharps would be willing to pass up his individual plaudits to celebrate promotion with his team-mates.

The centre-back was named in the PFA's League Two team of the season on Sunday for a third successive year.

Sharps genuinely appreciates the recognition by his fellow professionals but admits he would love promotion to go along with that - something Town will secure if they beat Dagenham at home this weekend.

"It's nice to get a personal achievement but I would give that up for promotion," he told the club's official website.

"To get both in the same year would be a really good thing to do."

Shrews boss Graham Turner hailed his captain, adding: "He's had a good season. He's started 41 games for us in the league and that's a terrific record. He's been a good skipper. To be voted in by your peers is a fair achievement."
