Shedden boosts title hopes
Defending champion Gordon Shedden boosted his title ambitions with victory in the final race of the BTCC round at Silverstone on Sunday.
Shedden will head into the final round at Brands Hatch in a fortnight's time third in the drivers' standings, 35 points behind leader Andrew Jordan.
Jordan's best effort on Sunday was a second placing in the day's second race following a memorable duel with Jason Plato, who won the opening two races.
Plato's double success meant he joined a group of four former champions who can still overtake Jordan at the top of the standings.
Matt Neal is the best placed of those, a point ahead of Shedden, to set up an thrilling finish to the drivers' championship.
Neal was third in the opening race of the day after Plato fended off a challenge from MG team-mate Sam Tordoff to complete a lights-to-flag victory.
Plato then denied Jordan what would have been a valuable win in the second race of the day after a tense battle that saw the championship leader take the lead in the closing laps, only for his rival to make the crucial move diving inside him at Woodcote Corner.
Shedden then improved his own title prospects in a pulsating race that saw Colin Turkington crash out after he had led for the majority.
