Sherlock has Southwell answers

David Pipe's Red Sherlock earned a 20/1 quote for the Sky Bet Supreme Novices' Hurdle when winning easily at Southwell.

One of only a handful of horses still racing in the famous green and blue colours of the late David Johnson, he won a classy bumper at Cheltenham on his reappearance to take his tally to three in that sphere.

Usually the mount of Timmy Murphy, Tom Scudamore was in the saddle as Murphy recovers from a dislocated shoulder but he barely had a moment of worry.

Stretching clear between the last two flights of the Betfred Goals Galore Maiden Hurdle, he beat Canuspotit by 14 lengths.

Scudamore told At The Races: "I'm sure that will have put a smile on Timmy's face watching that.

"He was very good, he did everything you would want him to do.

"I was very impressed with his jumping and the quicker we went the better it was.

"It remains to be seen what he's beaten but you can only beat what is put in front of you."

Red Sherlock was cut to 20/1 from 25s by Sky Bet for the Supreme Novices' Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival in March.
