Shin victorious as Ko falters
Lydia Ko's bid for back-to-back titles ended in failure as she lost out to Jiyai Shin at the Women's Australian Open in Canberra.
The 15-year-old amateur went into the final round with a share of the lead but carded a three-over-par 76 to finish third behind Shin and Yani Tseng.
The damage was done at the opening two holes as last week's New Zealand Open winner double-bogeyed the first and followed up with a five at the par-four second.
Ko never recovered, and a final-round 72 proved good enough for Shin to hold off world No 1 Tseng, who was two shots back in second at the end.
Thai Moriya Jutanugarn and Spaniard Beatriz Recari shared fourth at 13-under.
Scotland's Catriona Matthew finished tied for eighth at 11-under alongside Katherine Hull-Kirk, the best-placed home player, and two others.
