Shola shuns Newcastle talk

Shola Ameobi insists Joe Kinnear's departure has not distracted Newcastle's players ahead of Saturday's match away to Chelsea.

Kinnear resigned as the club's director of football this week, less than eight months after he was controversially appointed by Magpies owner Mike Ashley.

There is growing speculation that former managing director Derek Llambias could return to St James' Park, but Amoebi is paying little attention to off-pitch issues on Tyneside.

The striker, who has witnessed plenty of incident during his lengthy stay at Newcastle, urged his team-mates to focus their efforts on gaining a result against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League after last weekend's dismal derby defeat by Sunderland.

"As players, you just concentrate on your job," he said.

"In football, there are a lot of different aspects to it. As players, ultimately what we have got to do is concentrate on what we do as a group of guys on the pitch and try and implement what the coaching staff want us to do. That's our focus, that's always been the player's focus.

"Obviously a lot of things have been said outside of that, but you just have to remember what we are here for and that's to win games of football, and that's what we'll do this week."
