Southend have completed the signing of defender Ryan Cresswell from League Two rivals Rotherham on a two-year deal.
The 24-year-old centre-back, who joins on a free transfer, was delighted to make the switch to Roots Hall after being told he was not part of Steve Evans' plans at the south Yorkshire club.
"I had 12 months left on my contract but I felt the move was right," Cresswell told Southend's official website.
"I heard there was interest from Southend and I met the gaffer and I just felt this would be the best move for me. It was time for change and a test and my family will be moving down shortly."
