Shrimps chief salutes striker

Jack Redshaw earned the praise of his manager Jim Bentley after his late goal gave Morecambe a 1-0 home win over Southend on Saturday.

Redshaw added to his growing reputation with his third goal in two matches in a hard-fought League Two encounter at the Globe Arena. The former Manchester City youngster took his tally to six for the season with the winning goal two minutes from time, much to the delight of boss Bentley.

"Jack is doing fantastically well for us at the minute," said Bentley. "We have always had a lot of faith in him at the club and we see day-in day-out just what he is capable of in training.

"We have had to bring him on slowly because he was only playing part-time this time last year but he is getting stronger every week and gaining in confidence all the time and he will always cause defences problems.

"We have been on top in a lot of games this season but not had someone there to put the chances away, but Jack is doing that at the moment and looking a real goal threat.

"We don't want to put too much pressure on him but he is growing in confidence with every game and if we create chances you will back him to finish them."
