Simeone takes pride in draw
Atletico Madrid boss boss Diego Simeone was proud of his team after they drew 0-0 with Barcelona at the Vicente Calderon.
The two teams went into the game level on points at the top of the Primera Division and they remained that way at full-time with Barcelona sitting top by virtue of goal difference.
Simeone's men showed marginally more ambition than their visitors, their best chances falling to Diego Costa, who never gave Victor Valdes too much trouble, and Arda Turan, who should have made the Barcelona shot-stopper work harder when presented with a rare sight of goal in the second half.
And Atletico's Argentinian coach was delighted with how his team matched the defending champions.
"We have a lot of respect for Barcelona, there is a small difference of about 400 million euros between us but we were able to counter that with fight and commitment," he said.
"The two teams played to their strengths in order to hurt the opposition. It was a competitive game, both teams created chances, albeit not many."
Simeone had no apologies for the way his side approached the game.
"Some games finish 0-0 and some fans want to see five goals and they are disappointed when they don't, but we approached the game with intelligence," he said.
"Barca normally score a lot of goals in every game. We didn't want that to happen and although we didn't have that many chances, I'm very happy with the performance my players produced."
