Simmonds on song in Monte Carlo

Lizzie Simmonds put in a dominant performance to take gold in the women's 200m backstroke on the Mare Nostrum tour in Monte Carlo.

The Loughborough swimmer touched home in two minutes 9.10 seconds to see off the challenge of Canada's Sinead Russell (2mins 13.09secs) with room to spare.

Fran Halsall had to settle for silver in the 100m butterfly, though, recording a time of 59.99s but being pipped at the post by another Canadian, Katerine Savard (58.89).

Liam Tancock also claimed a silver medal in the men's 100m backstroke, trailing Ben Traffers of Australia with a time of 55.03.
