Simon takes Bucharest title

Frenchman Gilles Simon won the BRD Nastase Tiriac Trophy for the third time with a straight-sets victory over Fabio Fognini in Sunday's final.

Top seed Simon, who was a back-to-back winner in his last two visits to Bucharest in 2007 and 2008, took his first title of the season - and 10th of his career - with a 6-4 6-3 victory over the Italian in just under two hours.

Both players fashioned numerous break points in the match but it was world number 12 Simon who was the more clinical, winning five of his 12 compared to just two from 12 by his unseeded opponent, who was playing in his first ATP final.

The 27-year-old Simon now boasts a 15-1 career record in this tournament and a 4-0 success rate over 24-year-old Fognini.
