Slocum, Langley share lead

Heath Slocum and Scott Langley share the lead at the halfway stage of the Wyndham Championship in North Carolina.

Slocum and Langley shot matching five-under par rounds of 65 on Friday to reach 10-under, with Slocum in desperate need of victory to make it into the FedEx Cup playoffs.

The journeyman stands 158th in the points table and probably needs a top-three finish to secure a place at The Barclays, and he did his hopes no harm with a second successive 65.

Slocum carded three birdies on the front nine and had a run of four more from the 13th, coming back in 32 to take the lead.

Langley finished with birdies at his 17th and 18th holes to join Slocum at the top, but both players will have to continue their form over the weekend with the leaderboard being as crowded as it is.

Four shots covers the top 26 players and brings in a number of pre-tournament favourites, including Webb Simpson and Brandt Snedeker, who are both on seven-under.

But it is American pair Brian Stuard and Nick Watney who are among the closest challengers, Stuard also shooting 65 and Watney going one better with a 64 which included seven birdies.

Scotsman Martin Laird and Andrew Svoboda are also on nine-under with the group at eight-under including first round leader Camilo Villegas, who could only manage a 69, and Swedish pair Carl Pettersson and Freddie Jacobson.

But there was no joy for Irishman Padraig Harrington, who was among the also-rans on four-over - his missed cut means the loss of PGA Tour playing privileges next season unless he changes his mind and takes an exemption.

Scotsman Stephen Gallacher also had a day to forget, coming in with a six-over 76 to miss the cut by a substantial margin.
