Smith defiant on Saddlers style

Dean Smith refuses to give up on Walsall's attractive style of play despite four successive defeats.

The Saddlers, having survived back-to-back relegation battles, have been a breath of fresh air this season as their passing game earns plenty of plaudits.

Results have backed up their performances, with Smith's side sitting pretty in sixth place in League One at the start of October.

However, three successive league defeats and a Johnstone's Paint Trophy exit have put the brakes on the club's progress somewhat.

Yet speaking after Sunday's 1-0 reverse at Shrewsbury, in which Walsall dominated proceedings but were unable to find the net, boss Smith said: "I keep saying it but if we keep playing like that we'll win more games than we lose.

"You've got to have your values and your beliefs in what you're trying to do and I'm pleased with how they're progressing. We were relegation favourites at the start of the season and a few people will sit up and take notice of how we're playing."
