Smith sees Dundee positives

Dundee manager Barry Smith was upbeat about his side's second-half showing in the 2-0 defeat to Celtic at Dens Park.

Giorgios Samaras handed the SPL champions an early lead with a brilliant overhead kick, but it was not until the 71st minute that the visitors made sure of the points through Gary Hooper's exquisite lob.

The Dark Blues are now nine points adrift at the foot of the table - but Smith was full of praise for his side after they raised their game in the second period and made it tough for Neil Lennon's champions.

He said: "We said to them at half-time, they had defended relatively well and made it difficult for Celtic but we needed them to be a wee bit braver on the ball and I think in the second half they came out and did that.

"At 1-0 the keeper has made a world-class save and you don't know what would have happened if it had gone to 1-1.

"But the players kept fighting away and we're happy with the performance in terms of keeping the ball for a good 20-25 minutes anyway."
