Snoddy ponders Whites future

Leeds United captain Robert Snodgrass says it is "hard" to buy into chairman Ken Bates' vision for the Elland Road club.

The 24-year-old winger is considering his Whites future as he heads into the final year of his existing contract.

United have offered fresh terms to the Scotland international which would make him the club's top earner.

But Snodgrass is refusing to rush into signing the deal until he is certain the club's ambitions match his own.

He has made no secret that he wants to play Premier League football and earn a prominent part in Scotland's 2014 World Cup qualifying campaign.

"I'd love to get into the Premier League with Leeds. I'm captain now which is a different challenge," said the former Livingston player.

"The chairman is trying to put a bit of pressure on me and he's telling me what plans he has for the club.

"But they told me the same type of plans the season before and it didn't work out so it's hard to buy into these things again."

Whites boss Neil Warnock is desperate to build a promotion-winning side around Snodgrass and has urged the player to sign a new contract before reassessing his future in 12 months.

Warnock has promised the Scot can leave Elland Road next summer if they fail to seal a return to the Premier League.

But, with the 63-year-old only contracted until the end of next season himself, Snodgrass is not letting his comments affect his decision.

"He has already said he won't be sticking around much longer," Snodgrass told the Daily Record. "Who knows whether he has one or two more years left at Leeds?

"It's all right for him to say he could get me a move but if he leaves the people above him in the football club are not going to worry about what he said.

"My future doesn't lie in the hands of Neil Warnock, it's in the hands of Robert Snodgrass."
