Marvin Sordell hopes to secure a regular role in Bolton's push for Championship promotion when he returns from Olympic duty.
Sordell was a surprise inclusion in Stuart Pearce's 18-man Great Britain party for London 2012, especially as he was restricted to three substitute appearances for the Trotters last term following a January move from Watford.
"It's been a bit tough, coming in and not being able to play," said the 19-year-old striker.
"But obviously coming in to what was a Premier League club at the time and learning off all the experienced players here, training with top players and learning a lot off a top manager has been great for my experience.
"I'm disappointed, as any player would be, that I've not been able to play, although these things happen and I think everything works out for a reason.
"I think this season - obviously I'm very disappointed that we got relegated - I can see it as an opportunity for me to play a lot more games and hopefully get this club promoted again."
