Spaniard sees off Sorensen

Louk Sorensen's run at the Mercedes Cup in Stuttgart was brought to an end on Thursday as he was beaten by third seed Roberto Bautista Agut.

The Irish lucky loser had upset Igor Sijsling in the first round and fought back bravely to take Bautista Agut to a decider after a sparkling display in the second set.

But the Spaniard ultimately had too much for him as Sorensen rather ran out of steam and the world number 236 went down 6-3 1-6 6-1.

Next up for Bautista Agut is compatriot Guillermo Garcia-Lopez, who was a 7-6 (15/13) 7-5 winner over Switzerland's Yann Marti.

Home favourite Philipp Kohlschreiber made a second round exit as two matches in one day proved too much for the German.

The fifth seed overcame Jan-Lennard Struff 6-4 6-3 in his first round match, but when he returned to court later in the day he came up short, losing 7-5 7-6 (7/5) to Lukas Rosol.

Rosol will face Feliciano Lopez in the quarter finals after the Spaniard saw off countryman Daniel Gimeno-Traver 6-7 (3/7) 6-2 6-3.

Defending champion and top seed Fabio Fognini eased through with a 6-4 6-4 win over Andrey Golubev and will take on Santiago Giraldo, who was a 6-1 6-7 (5/7) 6-3 winner over Philipp Davydenko.

In the other quarter-final, Mikhail Youzhny, a 6-1 6-1 winner over Leonardo Mayer will face Federico Delbonis, who beat Benjamin Becker 6-7 (6/8) 6-4 6-4.
