Spirit bypasses Irish Guineas
Freddy Head has ruled out supplementing Charm Spirit for the Tattersalls Irish 2,000 Guineas.
A narrow winner of the Prix Djebel at Maisons-Laffitte on his three-year-old debut, Charm Spirit outran his 33-1 starting price with a fine effort to finish fifth in the QIPCO 2000 Guineas at Newmarket.
The July Cup at Newmarket is a potential target if connections decide to drop back in trip.
The trainer said: "I am not sure yet what we are going to do with him. He is in the July Cup, but we need to decide whether to stay at a mile or go back to sprinting.
"He is not going to Royal Ascot and he is not going to Ireland, that is for sure.
"He came out of Newmarket in very good form and I'm very happy with him."
Head also confirmed Prix Hocquart winner Free Port Lux will target Classic glory in the Prix du Jockey Club, the French Derby.
The trainer's only potential Royal Ascot runner is Thawaany, who won her final three starts as a three-year-old last year.
The Duke of Cambridge Stakes, formerly the Windsor Forest, could come under consideration, depending on how she performs on her imminent return to action.
"She is a very good mare and the plan is for her to run at Longchamp on May 31," said Head.
"If she runs well, she could go to Ascot, but we will see."
