Stan the man for Gateshead
Former Papua New Guinea international Stanley Gene will take over as head coach of Gateshead Thunder next season.
The 39-year-old former Hull and Hull KR favourite, who coached the Kumuls in the 2010 Four Nations Series, succeeds Kevin Neighbour, who stepped down at the Championship One club at the end of the season.
Gene is currently in charge of Hull KR's Under-19 team and will juggle the two positions.
"I am delighted to join Gateshead Thunder," he said.
"They are a club I have had contact with this season because of their relationship with KR.
"I have been increasingly impressed with the lads and what Kevin has achieved.
"My ambition is to take the club to the next level and to continue the hard work that has been put in here already."
Gateshead managing director Keith Christie said: "We are delighted to have Stan on board.
"He was a no-nonsense player and he is a very demanding coach - someone who will install a strong work ethic on and off the field."
