Steele braced for Boro battle
Middlesbrough goalkeeper Jason Steele is ready to fight for his place once again after a nightmare start to head coach Aitor Karanka's reign.
Injury and suspension have prevented the 23-year-old from making his mark under the Spaniard to leave loan signing Shay Given, new arrival Tomas Mejias Osorio, Dimi Konstantopoulos, Jayson Leutwiler and youngster Connor Ripley to fight it out.
Steele told the club's official website: "It wasn't the best start for me under the new manager as I tore my groin soon after he arrived, then I was sent off in his first game and ruptured an ankle ligament, which needed surgery.
"My recovery has been good. I've been training for around three weeks and I'm ready to put myself up for selection again."
Steele's chance could come at Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday with Given having returned to parent club Aston Villa, although he is relishing the competition for the number one spot.
He said: "Each one of us thinks we should be playing and quite rightly, that's the way it should be. This is good competition and something we maybe haven't had for a while."
