Steelers back in second

The Sheffield Steelers returned to second place in the Elite League with a thumping 7-1 win over the Cardiff Devils on Wednesday night.

Cardiff actually took the lead through Tyson Marsh but Sheffield levelled through Chris Blight before blitzing their opponents with six unanswered goals in the second period, Maxime Lacroix (two), Stefan Meyer, Jeff Legue, Tim Spencer and Jason Hewitt the men on the scoresheet.

The win saw Sheffield leapfrog above Braehead into second spot behind newly-crowned champions Belfast Giants.

Braehead were also in action on Wednesday night and were beaten 6-4 by Hull Stingrays in another high-scoring encounter. Jeff Smith and Guillaume Doucet scored twice apiece.
