Sheffield Steelers posted their third win in succession as they saw off Cardiff Devils 4-3 in the Elite League on Sunday night.
The Steelers are now four points behind Belfast, but with two games remaining they cannot overhaul the Giants in the race to finish as runners-up to newly-crowned champions Nottingham Panthers by dint of having managed fewer wins in regulation.
Dundee Stars ran out convincing 5-0 winners in a bottom-of-the-table clash with Hull Stingrays, who have now lost three straight, while Fife Flyers defeated Edinburgh Capitals 4-2.
