Stenson struggling in Sun City

Henrik Stenson's bid to start the season in the same way he ended the last suffered a blow in the third round of the Nedbank Golf Challenge.

Stenson won the DP World Tour Championship last month to become the first player to win the European Tour's Race to Dubai and FedEx Cup in the same season.

But the Swede's hopes of catching Jamie Donaldson and claiming a second title in Sun City looked to have come to an end when he ran up a double-bogey seven on the ninth.

The world number three's approach to the par-five found the water short of the green and after taking a penalty drop, Stenson saw his pitch bounce back off the wall on the edge of the hazard and into the water.

Birdies at the 10th and 11th repaired the damage, but at nine under par Stenson was six shots behind Donaldson, who was responding well to the challengers to his lead.

Donaldson birdied the fourth and fifth and saved par on the ninth after also finding the water, before picking up further shots on the 10th and 11th.

At 15 under he led by two from Denmark's Thomas Bjorn, who had chipped in for an eagle on the 10th and carded four birdies.
