Stricken Edgar to have leg op

Kieron Edgar is in hospital in Swindon after breaking a leg following a nasty incident at Newbury on Saturday.

The 5lb claimer, attached to David Pipe's stable, was aboard Roman Flight for trainer David Dennis in the Ladbrokes Supporting Greatwood Handicap Hurdle when the pair parted company at the last.

Seventh Sky had fallen, bringing down Tiqris, and Edgar was unshipped as he swerved to try to avoid the incident.

The rider was treated on the track for a short while before being loaded into an ambulance and taken to hospital for further assessment.

"I believe he's having an operation today," said Pipe.
