Stunned Shedden claims title

Gordon Shedden was crowned British Touring Car champion in the penultimate race of the season at Brands Hatch on Sunday.

Shedden, the first Scot to win the title in 17 years, sealed the championship with a second-placed finish in the second of three races.

That gave him an unassailable lead over rivals Jason Plato and Matt Neal, who had both go into the final meeting of the campaign with their title hopes alive.

Shedden told www.btcc.net: "All I ever wanted as a kid was to race touring cars - it was never about F1 - and it was John Cleland who was my hero.

"I never thought I'd ever get the chance to race them, though, let alone win a race and now I'm the champion. It is mind blowing."
