Sturrock hails Leonard heroics
Southend boss Paul Sturrock was pleased for substitute Ryan Leonard after the midfielder ended his goalscoring drought.
Five minutes from time he headed home Gavin Timlin's deep left-wing cross at the far post for his first goal since netting against Port Vale back in August 2011.
"When I made the changes and brought Ryan on one of the fans behind me kept on shouting out I didn't know what I was doing so I'd like to go and try and see him now," said Sturrock.
"It was good for Ryan to get the goal and I'm obviously pleased by the result.
"We were poor in the first half and I think it showed how influential Gavin Tomlin is.
"He injured his thigh in training on Friday and we're not sure how long he will be out for just yet.
"But we have players waiting and wanting to be involved and hopefully we can keep on getting the results while he's out."
