Super display from Saint

Paul Nicholls' Irish Saint ran his rivals ragged in the Keltbray Holloway's Hurdle at Ascot to complete a graded race double for Noel Fehily.

Fehily had already scored aboard Highland Retreat for Harry Fry before partnering Paul Nicholls' charge to an 11-length demolition job in the Grade Two contest.

No great shakes in either the Gerry Feilden and the Ladbroke, Irish Saint was back to his smart juvenile form of last season and it was all over from a long way out.

Tom Jonason, Nicholls' assistant, said: "We hadn't had a clear run with him until today. He wasn't spot-on in the Gerry Feilden and the Ladbroke was just a fast-run handicap. Today was a different kettle of fish where he had plenty of daylight.

"Having spoken to Paul, he will have an eye on the Betfair Hurdle (Newbury, February 8) now. He'll be going up in the handicap now, so while it's probably a shorter trip than ideal, he can go there under a penalty."

Sky Bet cut him to 14/1 from 25s for the prestigious Newbury handicap.
