Super League trio in Tonga squad
Ukuma Ta'ai has been rewarded for an impressive debut Super League season with a place in Tonga's World Cup squad.
The 26-year-old former New Zealand Warrior, who was a member of the Huddersfield team that finished top of the league for the first time for 81 years, is one of three Super League-based players named in a 24-strong squad.
He is joined by prop Mickey Paea, who is moving across the city from Hull KR to Hull for 2014, and St Helens second rower Willie Manu, who are the only survivors from Tonga's last World Cup campaign in 2008.
Tonga coaches Charles Tonga and Kristian Woolf have confirmed Manly's Penrith-bound prop Brent Kite as captain and included just one player from the nation's domestic competition.
The Tongans have lost the services of former Hull prop Sam Moa, who has been called up by New Zealand, and Canterbury Bulldogs forward Tony Williams is ruled out by injury but there are 11 NRL regulars, including exciting wingers Jorge Taufua and Daniel Tupou, Parramatta front-rower Fuifui Moimoi and Penrith back-rower Sika Manu.
"We are fortunate to have many young guys willing to represent the nation," Tonga said. "We are doing this for our people, to give back to our country."
The squad will arrive in England on October 18 after spending nine days in camp in Tonga and New Zealand and open their campaign against Scotland at Workington on October 29.
