Supporters handed stadium ban
Three teenagers have been banned from Middlesbrough's Riverside Stadium for more than three years after a smoke bomb was discharged last month, the club has confirmed.
The trio, aged between 14 and 17, will not be allowed back into the stadium until June 2017 after the device was activated inside a South Stand toilet block during half-time in Boro's 0-0 Sky Bet Championship draw with Wigan on January 28.
Any breach of the conditions could result in a lifetime ban.
Safety officer Chris Patzelt said: "Supporters are reminded that it is a criminal offence to bring pyrotechnics into, or possess them in, a football ground.
"We would urge any supporter who witnesses or suspects pyrotechnic possession or use at future games, both home or away, to bring this to the attention of their nearest steward immediately.
"We hope the bans handed out to those responsible will make others think twice about the consequences to others as well as themselves before considering similar acts."
