Surrey see off Somerset

Jason Roy hit 64 as Surrey claimed their first win of the NatWest T20 Blast with a 14-run success over Somerset at Taunton.

Opener Roy's 47-ball contribution set up Surrey's total of 173-7 after they had been asked to bat.

He put on 66 in 35 balls with Steven Davies (24) for the second wicket but Somerset's bowlers hit back in the second half of the innings, Lewis Gregory (2-34) and George Dockrell (2-36) each finishing with two wickets.

Craig Kieswetter got Somerset's run chase off to a strong start with a 31-ball half-century but a late collapse saw them finish well short at 159-6.

Kieswetter holed out for 61 off left-arm spinner Zafar Ansari (2-19), one of three wickets to fall in as many overs from the 15th onwards.

Somerset needed 18 from the last over with Alfonso Thomas (19no) and a hobbling Gregory (10no) in the middle but Jade Dernbach (1-26) stepped up to close out the Surrey win, redemption for the seamer after he had failed to do so in a similar situation against Sussex on Friday.
