Persistent rain saw day one of Surrey's match against Worcestershire abandoned without a ball being bowled at the Kia Oval.
The Oval groundstaff worked hard throughout the day to make conditions playable, but steady drizzle throughout the morning and then heavier rain for an hour immediately following a 1.40pm inspection eventually put paid to their efforts.
There was just time, however, before the first lengthy spell of rain, for Worcestershire captain Daryl Mitchell to win the toss and choose to field first when the match finally begins.
Surrey are without opening batsman Jacques Rudolph for this game. The South Africa Test player flew home on Wednesday following the murder of Louis Vorster, the cricketer who played first-class cricket in South Africa and one first-class match for Worcestershire in 1988.
