Swift third in Milan-San Remo
Team Sky rider Ben Swift claimed a top-three finish in Milan-San Remo after a sprint finish saw Mark Cavendish fade to fifth.
British racer Swift held on to third place behind Norway's Alexander Kristoff (Katusha) and Fabian Cancellara (Trek Factory Racing) after a gruelling 294kilometre marathon in cold and wet conditions in northern Italy.
Cavendish (Omega Pharma-Quick-Step) was the first sprinter to launch his tilt for the line, but the Manxman faded quickly in the last 100metres and sat back in his saddle to finish fifth, behind fourth-placed Juan Jose Lobato (Movistar).
Swift saw his chance of victory dashed when he was squeezed out by Cancellara, with the barriers denying him the space he needed to mount a challenge.
