Melandri claims double victory

Marco Melandri claimed a win double in the World Superbike Championship event in Brno on Sunday.

Britain's Tom Sykes led for much of the first race for Kawasaki Racing Team, only to collide with Jonathan Rea while entering a corner near the end of the race.

The crash enabled BMW Motorrad Motorsport's Melandri to power to victory, having pulled himself out of a position in the middle of the pack.

Sykes' team-mate Loris Baz took third, Carlos Checa of Althea Racing Ducati fourth and Aprilia Racing's Eugene Laverty fifth. Max Biaggi finished sixth.

Sykes was again edged into second by Melandri in race two, with Checa completing the podium.

Melandri's perfect day left him second in the season standings on 250.5 points, 21 behind leader Biaggi, who finished fourth in race two. Sykes moved third on 212.5, with reigning champion Carlos Checa eight points further back in fourth.
