Szczesny: We can save season

Wojciech Szczesny urged Arsenal to shrug off the defeat by Everton and focus their efforts on reaching the FA Cup final.

Arsenal's hopes of UEFA Champions League football next season could be slipping away as strikes from Steven Naismith, Romelu Lukaku and a Mikel Arteta own goal sealed Everton's 3-0 win at Goodison Park.

The Merseysiders moved within a point of the fourth-placed Gunners, with a game in hand, but Szczesny has called on his team-mates to rescue their season.

Arsene Wenger's men face Wigan in next weekend's FA Cup semi-final and the Polish goalkeeper expects a reaction at Wembley.

"We've got plenty to play for still. We've got the FA Cup now, so we're going to have to switch on and focus very quickly and forget about this," he said.

"I hope we can kick on from now and start a good run."

When asked about the Wigan match, Szczesny said: "It's huge obviously. We know it's the only trophy we can win and it will be a massive boost for the club and the fans."

Arsenal clung onto fourth place last season, holding off nearest rivals Tottenham on a tense final day.

Szczesny still believes his side can repeat this feat in the closing games of the campaign.

"Yes, we've managed to do it every single time so far, so although we haven't been at our very best recently, we believe we can do it, yes," he said.
