Ter Stegen will miss Gladbach
Marc Andre ter Stegen has admitted that he will miss Borussia Monchengladbach as he prepares to be officially introduced as Victor Valdes' replacement at Barcelona this week.
The 22-year-old goalkeeper will complete his switch from the Bundesliga to La Liga in a move that began at the start of the season.
Barca will present the first new signing of coach Luis Enrique's reign after the club's ban on transfers was lifted last month, allowing them to bring in players this summer.
"I have been at [Borussia Monchengladbach] for 18 years, but I know that after a short summer break life will go on for me and for Borussia," Ter Stegen explained.
"It is an unusual feeling though because I will miss Borussia.
"Of course, I am very excited about my new assignment. I want to try something new and hope to rise to the challenge."
The arrival of Ter Stegen comes after more than two years of scouting for a new goalkeeper in what El Sport state has been the most exhaustive search for a player in Barca's recent history.
Barcelona have fielded 18 goalkeepers in 20 years since Andoni Zubizarreta's departure from the club in 1994 and only Valdes' rise through the ranks brought stability to the position.
