Thomas finishes eighth after fall

Geraint Thomas fought back from a fall to claim eighth place in the Tour of Flanders on Sunday.

The Welshman hit the deck on the Taaienberg early in the stage but got himself back among the leaders on the third approach of the Oude Kwaremont.

However, after the effort of that comeback he did not have the energy to cover the moves of Fabian Cancellara, who bridged the gap to a breakaway and eventually won the race in a sprint finish to defend his title.
