Thompson sinks Montreal

Nate Thompson scored both of Tampa Bay's goals as the Lightning edged out their Atlantic Division-rival Montreal Canadiens 2-1 in overtime.

Thompson put the Lightning ahead in the second period then struck again 4:36 into OT after Daniel Briere tied things up in the third.

Ben Bishop made 28 saves to help the Lightning to their first win in three.

Steve Mason earned a shut-out on 35 saves as the Philadelphia Flyers beat the Los Angeles Kings 2-0.

The Flyers scored twice in the last three minutes to seal the points, with Justin Williams and Claude Giroux on target.

Jamie McGinn and Gabriel Landeskog scored two goals apiece to lift the Colorado Avalanche to a 7-1 rout of the Buffalo Sabres.

Nathan MacKinnon, Marc-Andre Cliche and Tyson Barrie also scored for the Avalanche with Matt D'Agostini replying for the Sabres.

Chad Johnson made 22 saves for the shut-out as the Boston Bruins beat the Edmonton Oilers 4-0.

Phil Kessel bagged a hat-trick to help the Toronto Maple Leafs claim a 6-3 victory over the Ottawa Senators.

The Phoenix Coyotes saw off the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-1, the Columbus Blue Jackets eased past the Florida Panthers 4-1 and the Dallas Stars blanked the Anaheim Ducks for a 2-0 win.

There were also wins for the St Louis Blues, the Calgary Flames and the San Jose Sharks.
