Toast enters Epsom frame
Jamie Osborne is planning to supplement Toast Of New York for the Investec Derby following his Meydan victory on Saturday.
The son of Thewayyouare stepped up on two wide-margin wins at Wolverhampton last year to land the Group Two UAE Derby in the hands of Jamie Spencer.
Owned by Michael Buckley, Toast Of New York will now be added to the field for the Epsom Classic on June 7 with Osborne hopeful he would see out the trip if he lined up.
He told At The Races: "I'm going to see Michael today and obviously we will discuss the future. It's not impossible (he will go to America), all options are open to us. I will be supplementing him for the English Derby as well and we'll keep all options open.
"Watching last night, it took Jamie until halfway down the back to pull him up. There's plenty in his pedigree to suggest he will get a mile and a half and I'm a great believer that horses stay if they travel. I'm thinking a mile and a half, if he's well in nine weeks time, it's not impossible he will get it.
"There's only one English Derby."
While Epsom is on the radar, Osborne is keen to assess the condition of his stable star when he arrives back in Britain before mapping out any firm plans.
He said: "I think what you have to bear in mind with this horse is that we've had to do quite a lot of work at an early stage in his life to get him into a position so that he could win last night. It remains to be seen how tired he will be when he gets home.
"He flies back on Monday night, he will be back in Lambourn on Tuesday and I think a lot of the decisions are going to have to wait until we see what the whole trip has taken out of him.
"I think we might just be thinking longer term with him. If we look after him, I don't think it's impossible this horse could come back and compete in the World Cup.
"Michael would love to have a horse to go round the world with, have a bit of fun and go chasing some money and maybe he is that horse."
